History of the shroud

The shroud is one of the first forms of burial clothing. It has been known since ancient times, when people dressed the deceased in it. It was a sign of respect. The body was supposed to be covered, protected, and prepared for its return to the earth.

Religion and the meaning of the funeral shroud

In Christianity, it commemorates the shroud in which the body of Christ was wrapped. In Judaism (tashrichim) and Islam (kafan) it is an integral part of every funeral.
