Bohnice Cemetery (Prague)

A place with a quiet history, located in the northern part of Prague. It is less well-known, but it carries a distinctive atmosphere and its own rhythm of remembrance. The cemetery is clearly arranged, oriented to the east, and its layout promotes peace and easy orientation. The space also includes a smaller, unconventional dog cemetery – as a reminder that memory, love and gratitude have many forms.

Interesting fact: 

The dominant feature of this cemetery is the former morgue, in its windows you will find the first ever cemetery library. You can bring your own books that you no longer have room for at home and exchange them for others. There is also gardening equipment available, which you can borrow for free and return after use.

A significant number of soldiers who fell for their country around 1945 rest in peace here. You will also find cenotaphs (a type of memorial plaque/column) dedicated to soldiers whose bodies have not been discovered.

At Bohnice Cemetery you can also find graves of interesting personalities such as, for example, the landowner Alois Svoboda, who donated a castle and land in Prague – Trója to the Czechoslovak state for the establishment of the Prague Zoological Garden.
