Farewell to Václav Hybš

The final farewell to Václav Hybš will take place on April 27 in the Big Ceremonial Hall of the Strašnice Crematorium. In silence and respect that befits his life and legacy.

At the age of 90, a musician who significantly influenced the form of Czech popular music in the second half of the 20th century passed away. As a trumpeter, arranger and bandleader, he stood alongside personalities such as Karel Gott and Waldemar Matuška, and accompanied his orchestra on the concert and television scene for decades. His work remains inscribed in countless recordings and the memories of listeners.

Václav Hybš was not only an extraordinary musician, but also a person who was able to connect generations and genres. His orchestra sounded in variety shows and in unexpected places, as shown, for example, by his performance at the Trutnoff Open Air festival.

During his career, he made hundreds of recordings and received numerous awards for the dissemination of Czech music. Memories of colleagues, including Jiří Korn and Helena Vondráčková, recall not only his professionalism, but also his humanity, humor, and the lightness with which he approached life. The final farewell is thus primarily a thank you – for the music that remains, and for the silent trace he left.
