Farewell to Josef Přibyl

On Friday, July 10, 2026, we had the honor of organizing the final farewell to International Master Josef Přibyl, a prominent figure of Czech chess, a long-time coach, publicist, and a person who influenced several generations of chess players with his lifelong work.
The funeral ceremony took place in the New Ceremonial Hall at the Olšany Cemetery in Prague, attended by family, friends, chess colleagues, and others who came to commemorate his life and thank him for the legacy he left behind.
Josef Přibyl dedicated more than six decades to Czech chess. In addition to his own successful playing career, he raised a number of chess talents, was the author of professional books, and participated in the development of chess life in the Czech Republic for many years. His name will remain associated not only with many sporting successes, but above all with humanity, patience, and a willingness to pass on his experience to future generations.
It was an honor to be a part of this important moment.
