Farewell to Juraj Jakubisko
Cathedral of St. Vitus, Wenceslas and Adalbert in Prague
It was a great honor for us to be able to participate in the final farewell to one of the most famous Slovak artists. We wish the bereaved much strength and thank them for the trust they have placed in us.
The funeral service for film director Juraj Jakubisko took place on March 4th in St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle.
The altar was dominated by an oak coffin decorated with film strips, a heart of white roses and a black and white portrait with a cigar. The entire space was lined with floral gifts – from filmmakers and politicians. The wreath from the family was in the form of a film camera.
The funeral speech was delivered by a family friend and former president Václav Klaus. The funeral mass was celebrated by Cardinal Dominik Duka. The ceremony ended with the carrying out of the coffin, which was decorated with the director’s famous hat.
Mr. Jakubisko died on Friday, February 24th in Prague. He was 84 years old. His most famous works include The Millennial Bee, the iconic Perinbaba, An Ambiguous Report about the End of the World, and Bathory.
